Kansas Tennis Finishes Strong on Final Day of KU Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. –
With wins from freshman Karen Hernandez and juniors Monica Pezzotti and Victoria Khanevskaya, the University of Kansas women’s tennis team closed out the 2011 Fall season Sunday on the third day of the 2011 KU Invitational at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Kansas went 3-2 in singles competition on the final day of the tournament.
Hernandez, a freshman from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, took down Laura Mongin from Abilene Christian, 6-1, 0-6, 10-7, to place fifth in Singles Draw C. Pezzotti, a junior from Cucuta, Colombia, won her final match in Singles Draw A, defeating Iowa State’s Tessa Lang, 6-1, 6-0.
In an extra singles match, Khanevskaya, a junior from Moscow, Russia, defeated UMKC’s Suzan Lisenby, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Amy Barnthouse fell in the championship match of Singles Draw E to Marquette’s Tina Radan, 6-1, 6-3, to take second place in the draw.
Kansas Tennis will be back in action in January when the team travels to Honolulu, Hawaii, for the Hawaii Invitational.
