CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Kansas women’s golf team is tied for 14th place following the first round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Charleston, S.C., Sunday. The second round was shortened due to darkness and will resume Monday morning at 8:45 a.m. Sophomore Meghan Potee leads the team as she is currently tied for 22nd after firing a first round 75.

“Meghan Potee is leading the way for us and she did a great job of being mentally tough throughout the day,” Coach O’Neil said.

Senior Katy Nugent carded a five-over-par 77 in the first round and finished the first round in a tie for 40th, while junior Audrey Yowell sits in a tie for 57th after firing a 79 in the first round.

Sophomore Thanuttra Boonraksasat finished the first round in a tie for 74th after shooting an 81 and freshman Nadia Luttner is currently in 89th with an 85. Head coach Erin O’Neil was a little disappointed with the Jayhawks performance Sunday.

“Unfortunately, today did not go well,” Coach O’Neil said. “There is no doubt in my mind that we are a better team than how we played. We need to go out tomorrow and focus on the controllable, have our attitudes in the right place, make better decisions, and fight for every shot.”

Setting the pace for the 17-team tournament is the University of North Carolina Greensboro which finished the first round with a team score of 293. Campbell currently holds second place at 295, while Maryland sits at third-place with 297.

The Jayhawks will conclude their second rounds Monday morning and play their final round immediately following. Live stats are available on www.golfstat.com.
