Pitching Leads Kansas Baseball in Weekend Scrimmages

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Thomas Taylor and junior Jordan Piche’ each pitched four shutout innings, while three other Jayhawk pitchers enjoyed scoreless appearances as Kansas held three more scrimmages over the weekend at Hoglund Ballpark.

Piche’ led the way, going four innings and allowing one hit and two walks with six strikeouts, while Taylor allowed two hits over four innings with four strikeouts. Freshman Tyler Watson also recorded four strikeouts in a three-inning appearance, while sophomores Robert Kahana and Dakota Smith also had strong outings.

“Our pitching was outstanding over the weekend,” Kansas head coach Ritch Price said. “Benjamin, Piche, Kahana, Taylor, Watson, Poppe, and Mustain threw the ball extremely well. Our guys are making good progress and getting better each week.”

Senior Alex DeLeon went 4-for-10 with a double, a homer and five RBIs, while freshman Jacob Boylan was 5-for-9 with three doubles, a triple and an RBI to lead the offensive efforts.

Kansas baseball returns to action this weekend, hosting the first Floyd Temple Alumni game on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Jayhawks will honor the memory of the longtime baseball coach with a ceremony prior to first pitch.

“We are all looking forward to our Alumni Game on Saturday,” said Price. “It will be great to see all of our former players and enjoy all of the Homecoming activities. We will honor Floyd Temple prior to the start of the Alumni Game on Saturday; it will be a special day!”
