Kansas Places Third at the Big 12 Relays

Kansas swimming and diving hosted the Big 12 Relays season kickoff meet Friday at Robinson Natatorium. The University of Kansas tied for third with Missouri, each finishing with 62 points. No. 7 Texas won the event with 102 points outpacing second-place Texas A&M who finished with 98 points. KU was led by its second-place finishing 4×25 yard Medley Relay team.

Kansas began the Big 12 Relays with a bang as the Jayhawks recorded a second-place finish in the relays’ first event; the 4×25 yard Medley Relay. The team comprised of backstroker Iuliia Kuzhil, flystroker Ashley Leidigh, breaststroker Danielle Herrmann and freestyler Maria Mayrovich finished in 49.42 seconds. Texas won the opening event with a handheld time of 48.44 seconds.

Kansas also received strong performances from its 3×100 breaststroke relay team. Herrmann, Joy Bunting and Stephanie Payne combined for a third-place finish with a time of 3:20.93.

In the afternoon session, Kansas earned two third-place finishes in 4×100 Medley and 4×100 I.M. Relays. KU received gutsy performances from Herrmann, Bunting and Payne in the 200-400-200 I.M. relay as they earned KU a third place finish. Their performance helped to secure Kansas’ third place overall finish with just one event to go.

On the diving board, Kansas placed first with 274.85 points on the 1m board. Kansas placed fourth on the 3m board with 237.50 points.

Winning the overall meet for both men and women were the Texas Longhorns. Scoring results are listed below and complete results can be found in the link above.

Next up for the Jayhawks will be the Border Showdown with Missouri. Kansas will travel to Columbia on Nov. 1 for a Saturday dual scheduled for 2 p.m. Kansas’ next home dual is scheduled for Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. against Drury University.
