Postgame Quotes

Texas 1, Kansas 0

Oct. 24, 2008 – Lawrence, Kan.

Head Coach Mark Francis

On the disappointment of the loss:

“I thought we had much better chances throughout the game. We knew going in (Kasey Moore) was dangerous, and we let her go one time and she scored a goal. She’s a good player, and that’s what good players do. The unfortunate thing is that Shannon (McCabe) had a good shot that hit the post, Emily (Cressy) did a really good job down in the box and keeper made a good save and then we couldn’t get in on the rebound. But I thought we had pretty good opportunities, especially in the first half. In the second half, we lost our rhythm a little bit, but that’s a soccer game.”

On if the goal deflated the team:

“I didn’t think it did. We’ve been down before and come back. I don’t know, we lost our rhythm a little bit. We didn’t do things in the second half, that I thought we did well in the first half – playing the feet, connecting, and I think we got caught playing a little too direct.”

On if the team panicked a little bit:

“I think when you’re down like that with 20 minutes to go, you want to get the ball forward earlier. But you want to get in forward and possess it. We just sort of played it forward without much of a purpose. It happens.”

On if the field conditions played a part in the lack of offense:

“I don’t think they did, because we did it in the first half. I just think we didn’t play very well (in the second half). They (Texas) had to play on the same field we did.”
