Kansas to Face Georgetown in Men's Basketball Annually for Next Four Seasons

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s basketball has announced that it will play Big East Conference power Georgetown in a four-year home-and-home series starting in the 2013-14 season.
Georgetown will visit historic Allen Fieldhouse on December 21, 2013, and also in the 2015-16 season. Kansas will make trips to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., to face the Hoyas during the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons.
Kansas and Georgetown are annually among the winningest programs in college basketball. The Jayhawks have the second-most victories with 2,070 wins, while Georgetown is 31st among the more than 340-plus NCAA Division I schools with 1,544 all-time wins.
Kansas and Georgetown have met two times in men’s basketball with each claiming a victory. Last season the then-No. 12 Jayhawks defeated Georgetown 67-63 in the quarterfinals of the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii. KU’s Thomas Robinson led the Jayhawks with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyshawn Taylor scored 16 points. Georgetown was led by Jason Clark who scored 15 points, while Hoya Hollis Thompson had 14 points. Georgetown won the previous meeting 70-57 in the semifinal of the 1987 NCAA Southeast Regional played in Louisville, Ky. Danny Manning paced the Jayhawks that day with 23 points, including 19 in the first half. Georgetown’s Reggie Williams led all scorers with 34 points.
