Kansas Soccer Remains Highly Ranked

Oct. 27, 2004

LAWRENCE, Kan. – With only one more win needed to capture the program’s first Big 12 Championship, the University of Kansas soccer team continued to receive national praise in the polls this weeks as it was ranked as high as seventh in the major women’s soccer polls.

The Jayhawks appear this week at No. 7 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 after defeating No. 13 Texas A&M, 1-0, and falling to Texas in double overtime, 1-0, on the road last weekend. The SoccerBuzz Top 30 placed KU at the No. 8 spot, while both the Soccer America Top 25 and Soccer Times Top 25 placed Kansas in the top 12 nationally, with the Jayhawks at No. 11 in the Soccer America poll and at No. 8 in Soccer Times.

This season, the Jayhawks have become one of the nation’s top defensive teams, allowing only six goals all season long. Only Penn State, which has allowed only five goals in 2004, has allowed fewer goals against than the Jayhawks.

On Friday, Kansas will host Iowa State at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex at 3 p.m. and will honor its seven seniors, who will be playing in their final home match.
