Nate Barbee shot a first-day 153 to lead the Kansas men’s golf team to a 10th place finish after two rounds at the Baylor Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club.

The team shot a first round 314, and then improved on that by 11 strokes for a 303 in round two to finish the day with 617 strokes.

“Today was just a tough day with a lot of wind on a good and hard old golf course,” said head coach Kit Grove. “The guys let it go a bit in the morning and we did rebound fairly well in the afternoon. Hopefully we can come out tomorrow and put a good round together to wrap up the fall season.”

Barbee opened with a first round 78, prior to firing a second round 75 to finish day one in 34th place.

Senior Andrew Storm shot rounds of 78 and 77 to finish the first day of play in 43rd place. Fellow senior Walt Koelbel and freshman Ian Anson shot first day scores of 157 to tie for 52th place entering the final round of play. Freshman Blake Giroux stands tied for 61st place with 163 strokes.

Texas A&M, led by individual leader Brandon Burgoon, leads the 12-team event after a first-day score of 577. Lamar trails the Aggies by two strokes entering the final round of play.
