Nate Barbee fired his second-straight under-par round to finish tied for fourth place and lead the Kansas men’s golf team to an 11th place finish at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate.
Barbee, a Dakota Dunes, S.D. native, has continually improved during his Jayhawk career and he finished the fall season with three top-10 finishes, including a win at the Kansas Invitational.
Junior Jeff Bell continued his steady play as he carded an even-par round of 71 and finished the event tied for 47th. Bell, who joined this team this fall as a walk-on, ended his fall season on a high note with back-to-back rounds of par or better.
Senior Bryan Hackenberg carded a 73 to finish tied for 53rd. Freshman Chris Gilbert tied for 59th after shooting a final round 76. Fellow freshman Alex Gutesha finished tied for 65th after a final day 75.
UNLV won the event with an impressive 23-under par score of 829. Timothy Madigan, of host New Mexico State, and Derek Ernst of UNLV tied for medalist honors. Barbee fell just two strokes shy of recording his second medalist finish this fall.
The Jayhawks have now concluded the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the remainder of the 2009-10 season.
