Jayhawks wrap up fall season with 13th-place finish

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Sophomore Emily Powers led the University of Kansas women’s golf team to a 13th place finish at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Sunday. The Quincy, Ill. native fired a par 71 (79-73-71–223) in the third round on the final day of play to tie for 11th place.

The Jayhawks advanced to 13th place, jumping ahead three spots in the team leaderboard after completing 36 holes on Saturday. The lady `Hawks fired a third-round score of 297, besting their second-round score by 15 strokes. The team finished with a total score of 926 (317-312–297) for the three-day event.

Sixth-ranked Arkansas claimed top team and individual honors, setting the pace with a three-round score of 886 (295-300-291). Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis led the lady Razorbacks to victory, after firing a two-under par 69 in the third round to take first place with a final score of 213. Auburn finished in second place, firing an 894 (301-300-293).

Freshman Meghna Bal fired a one-over-par 72 (78-84-72–234) in the third round to launch her in a tie for 54th place. Grace Thiry finished just one stroke behind her fellow Jayhawk, carding a three-round score of 235 (79-82-74) to tie for 61st place.

Kansas senior Annie Ginagrosso finished in a tie for 80th place, shooting an 87 on the day for a total three-round score of 241 (81-73-87). Freshman Sydney Wilson fired her lowest score of 80 in the third round and ended the three-day event with a final score of 246 (82-84-80), good for 90th place.

The UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate culminates the Jayhawks’ fall season. Kansas will next be in action on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 as they travel to Miami, Fla., to compete in the Papa John’s Collegiate.
