Oct. 29, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 24 Texas amassed 211 yards on the ground and ate up almost 24 minutes of clock in the first half and lead the Jayhawks, 26-0 at the intermission. KU collected only 10 total yards on 13 plays.

Texas came out of the gates quickly, scoring on its first two drives to take a 14-0 in the first quarter. The KU defense was on the field for all but six minutes of the first half. Senior linebacker Steven Johnson recorded 12 tackles in the 30 minutes, while freshman safety Keeston Terry chipped in 11 stops.

The KU defense came up big in the second quarter when they stopped consecutive Texas drives to keep the Longhorns within reach. The first came when Johnson and sophomore linebacker Prinz Kande stopped UT quarterback David Ash short of the goal line on fourth and goal to force a turnover-on-downs. The second came when junior corner Greg Brown intercepted a Conner Ash pass in the end zone. The pick was Brown’s second of his career and first of the season.
