KU's Rojas Tabbed As Ray Guy Award Candidate

Oct. 30, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior Alonso Rojas was named one of 42 candidates for the 2009 Ray Guy Award, given to the nation’s top punter each season. Ten semifinalists will be named Nov. 13.

Rojas has been very effective in pinning down opponents this season. He has landed 11 of his 29 punts this season inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Eight of his punts have been fair caught, seven downed and only nine returned.

While he is averaging just 38.86 yards per punt, he is averaging 42.1 yards on the 18 punts he has kicked from his own side of the 50-yard line. He has three 50-plus yard punts and has kicked at least one 47-yard punt in five straight games.

Rojas will be in action when the Jayhawks play at Texas Tech Saturday. The game will be televised on ABC beginning at 2:30 p.m.
