Three Jayhawks Named to All-Big 12 Teams

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer forward Ingrid Vidal was one of two freshmen named to the All-Big 12 First Team, while teammates Whitney Berry and Liana Salazar were both named members of the All-Big 12 Second Team it was announced by the league office Monday. In addition, Vidal and Salazar were also named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team.

Vidal is enjoying one of the best seasons ever by a KU freshman. The Palmira, Colombia native owns a team-high 27 points, which ties for the best mark by a Jayhawk freshman and ties for third among conference players this season. Vidal also leads Kansas and ranks second in the Big 12 with 11 goals. Four of her scores have been game-winners. Vidal has earned numerous honors already in 2011 including Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice, College Soccer 360 Primetime Performer Honor Roll and a top 20 ranking by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Another top offensive performer for the Jayhawks has been Berry in the midfield. The junior set a program record with 13 assists this season, a mark that ties for second in the nation, while her 25 career helpers are second-best in program history. Berry also owns a team-high 27 points this season along with Vidal to give her a career total 57 points, which ranks fourth in the KU record books. During 2011 Big 12 contests, the Wichita, Kan., native led Kansas with four goals and 13 points.

Like Vidal, Salazar has enjoyed a productive freshman season. In eight conference games, the Bogota, Colombia native recorded at least one point in four matches. Her three goals and seven points were the Jayhawks’ second-best mark in league play. For the season, the KU midfielder ranked second on the squad with a .571 shots on goal percentage.

Kansas concluded its regular season last weekend going 11-8 overall to earn the seventh seed at the Big 12 Soccer Championship this week. The Jayhawks are scheduled to take on No. 2 seed and nationally-ranked Texas A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas.
