Goodrich Candidate for 2012-13 Senior Class Award

Oct. 31, 2012

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Kansas senior Angel Goodrich was one of 30 NCAA Division I women’s basketball student-athletes to be selected as a candidate for the 2012-13 Senior CLASS Award Wednesday.

Goodrich led the nation last season in assists per game (7.4) and paced KU with 14.0 points per game as she guided the Jayhawks to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, their best postseason run since 1998. Goodrich was named All-America Honorable Mention by both the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and Associated Press following last season. She also broke a Kansas and Big 12 Conference record, tallying 250 assists on the year.

She has already been named a Preseason All-America honorable mention selection by the Associated Press, and was a Lindy’s Preseason All-America Third Team honoree. In addition, Goodrich was also named 2012 Preseason First-Team All-Big 12.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. In addition, KU senior Jeff Withey was also named one of 30 candidates on the men’s side.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The women’s Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Final Four in New Orleans April 7 and 9.

The candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 men’s and 10 women’s finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one men’s finalist and one women’s finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
