Jayhawks Roll Past Fort Hays State, 80-55, in Exhibition Game

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas women’s basketball team tipped off the 2006-07 season with an, 80-55, exhibition win against Fort Hays State Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas connected on its first eight possessions and welcomed the debut of seven freshmen.

Junior forward Taylor McIntosh led the Jayhawks with 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor. The Wichita, Kan., native added four rebounds and two blocks. Senior Shaquina Mosley dished out a game-high eight assists while also pulling down five rebounds. Kansas out-rebounded the Lady Tigers, 44-32.

Three freshmen finished in double figures, as Sade Morris led the newcomers with 14 points. Fellow freshmen Danielle McCray poured in 13 points while LaChelda Jacobs chipped in 10.

Kansas had its biggest lead of the game at the 15:15 mark in the second half with a 34-point margain. The Jayhawks bench outscored the Fort Hays, 44-25, and pounded 36 points in the paint. Kansas shot a blistering 63.3 percent from the field for the contest.

Fort Hays was led by Naomi Bancroft, who scored 11 points. The Jayhawks jumped out to a 46-18 halftime lead.

The Jayhawks will next host Washburn Sunday in their second and final exhibition game before the regular season kicks off Nov. 11. Kansas and Washburn are set to tip-off at 2 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse.
