LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Junior forward Darnell Jackson scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and freshman Darrell Arthur added 21 points as the Kansas men’s basketball team soared past Washburn, 99-69, in an exhibition game Thursday night at Allen Fieldhouse. Five Jayhawks reached double digits and Kansas limited Washburn to 37.1 percent shooting from the field.

Jackson, a 6-9 forward, was 8-of-12 from the field and snared seven offensive rebounds in the victory, while the 18 points would have set a career high. Arthur, a 2006 McDonald’s All-American, added six rebounds to his 21 points and also connected on 6-of-9 shooting from the free-throw line.

Sophomores Julian Wright and Brandon Rush, the 2006 Big 12 Co-Preseason Players of the Year, netted 15 and 10 points respectively. Wright threw down several highlight-reel dunks and added nine rebounds and two blocks to his stat line. Rush chipped in five assists and six rebounds in the winning effort.

Sophomore guard Mario Chalmers was the fifth Jayhawk in double figures, scoring 12 points while also grabbing four rebounds and assists. Freshman guard Sherron Collins, in his Allen Fieldhouse debut, contributed eight points and five dimes in 24 minutes of action.

The Jayhawks’ defense forced 25 Washburn turnovers, which they converted into 35 points. Kansas outscored Washburn, 42-20, in the paint and also netted 17 fast-break points.

Washburn was led by Frank Phifer, who scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Kansas returns to Allen Fieldhouse for another exhibition contest on Nov. 7 when it hosts Emporia State. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
