Jayhawks Pause for Fun in Rock Chalk Pumpkin Carving Contest

Nov. 2, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan.– While winding down its fall practice schedule, the University of Kansas softball team opted to bring pumpkins to Arrocha Ballpark over bats and gloves to participate in the team’s third annual Rock Chalk Pumpkin Carving Competition.

Split into the same four divisions the Jayhawks have competed in all season, the Warhawks took home first place with a rousing poem during the presentation of their pumpkin – a young Jayhawk that needed to learn how to “Jump” to greatness.

The Crusaders were awarded second place with a pumpkin stressing the Kansas Athletics motto of being “Fundamentally Sound, Mentally Tough and Assignment Correct.”

All the teams then enjoyed a festive holiday cake to wrap up the afternoon.
