Giles to Resume Practice; Will Not Play This Semester

Nov. 3, 2006

LAWRENCE, KAN. –

University of Kansas junior basketball center C.J. Giles will resume practicing with the team today, head coach Bill Self announced Friday. Giles, however, will not be permitted to play in any games this semester.

“We have evaluated C.J.’s progress regarding his various responsibilities,” Self said, “and will continue to do so. He will be allowed to practice with the team, but he will not play in a game this semester. This penalty is appropriate for the lack of responsibility he has shown to his coaches, teammates and the Kansas basketball family.

“In the meantime, we will continue to monitor his progress. I will not comment further on C.J.’s status until after the first semester.”

“I apologize to my coaches and teammates for my actions,” Giles said. “I understand why I have been suspended. I know I have to improve myself as a person – for my own good and for the good of the team.”
