Nov. 3, 2009

SAN ANTONIO, Texas –

Shelby Williamson

Kansas sophomore forward Emily Cressy and freshman midfielder Shelby Williamson have been named Big 12 Performers of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1. Cressy was named the league’s offensive player of the week for the first time in her career, while Williamson was selected as the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week also for the first time.

Cressy, a sophomore forward from Ventura, Calif., scored a pair of goals against then-No. 20 Missouri on Friday, Oct. 30 to lead the Jayhawks to a 3-2 upset on Senior Day. The victory over the Border Showdown rival Tigers moved KU into a three-way tie for seventh-place in the Big 12, and eventually helped the Jayhawks earn a spot in the conference tournament. Earlier in the day, she was selected to CollegeSoccer360.com’s Primetime Performers list.

Williamson, a freshman from Colorado Springs, Colo., scored KU’s second goal against Missouri on Oct. 30, giving the Jayhawks their first lead of the match in the 38th minute. Williamson is second among Big 12 freshmen with seven goals and 16 points this season, trailing only Nebraska’s Morgan Marlborough. Of Williamson’s seven goals, three have come against conference foes this year.

Texas A&M defender Bri Young was named the league’s defensive player of the week.

Kansas (12-7-2) will face Missouri in the first round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship on Wednesday at Blossom Soccer Complex in San Antonio, Texas. Kick off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Live audio and video from the match will be available at www.kuathletics.com.
