No. 24 Kansas Defeats Missouri State and Iowa

Lawrence, Kan. — No. 24 Kansas defeated Missouri State and Iowa, in a double dual on Nov. 4, at Robinson Natatorium. The `Hawks competed against each team individually and came away with two wins. The Jayhawks won 11 of the 16 events.

“A real test for our team after being ranked is coming back and having a great performance. I feel we did that tonight,” said head coach Clark Campbell.

The Missouri State and Iowa men also competed in a dual with Missouri State winning, 85.5-54.5.

Five freshman recording wins in the dual. Ashley Leidigh recorded four victories on the day, including wins in the 200 fly (2:01.43), the 100 free (52.03), the 100 fly (55.37), and was a member of the 400 free relay. Along with Leidigh, sophomore Terri Schramka, senior Gina Gnatzig, and senior Lindsey Urbatchka combined to finish the 400 free relay in 3:30.45.

Freshmen Molly Brammer (1650 free, 17:16.87) and Shanna Bradbury (400 IM, 4:30.46) each recorded wins along with freshman Danielle Herrmann who won the 100 breast (1:04.63) and the 200 breast (2:23.21) and the 200 medley relay. Herrmann joined junior Jenny Short, Urbatchka, and Schramka to finish the race in 1:46.03.

Senior co-captain Gina Gnatzig also won the 200 free with a time of 1:52.14 and the 500 free with a time of 5:01.60.

In diving action, freshman Hannah McMacken finished third in the three-meter competition with a score of 224.60 and senior Robyn Karlage finished third in the one-meter competition with a score of 219.60.

“We’re really excited to get ready for the Minnesota Invite. We are a championship meet team and this will get us ready to accomplish some great things,” Campbell said.

The Jayhawks will take the next week off before traveling to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Minnesota Invite on Nov. 18-20.
