Jayhawks In 15th At The Derby

AUBURN, Ala. –

The University of Kansas women’s golf team is 15th place, in a 17-team field, after the first round of The Derby. The Jayhawks shot an opening round of 317 at the par-72 Auburn University Club.

“We struggled today,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “We still have two more rounds to make up ground and I think we will do that.”

Host school Auburn leads the tournament with a 291 followed by Georgia and Duke who had a 294.

Sophomore Annie Giangrosso is in a tie for 19th after shooting a 75. Senior Chelsey Pryor is tied for 34th after an opening round of 76. Junior Amanda Costner and Meredith Winkelmann are in a tie for 74th after each shot opening rounds of 83. Sophomore Sarah Kierl is in 90th after a 97.

The Jayhawks will begin second round play on Saturday with tee times set to begin at 8:30 a.m. For live updates and results, visit www.golfstat.com.
