Current And Former Jayhawks Competing At Duramed Futures Tour Qualifier

FLORIDA – Current Kansas women’s golfer Emily Powers and former Jayhawk Amanda Costner are among 288 players who began competition in the Duramed Futures Golf Tour Qualifying Tournament taking place this week. The tour is the developmental tour for the LPGA.

The tournament is five rounds, played at four different courses west of Tampa, Fla. The top-275 players and ties will be eligible to apply for Tour membership in 2010. A ranking will be assigned to each player, including those players who miss the cut, but who are among the top-275 finishers, following the completion of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament.

Players who shoot an 87 or higher in any round are automatically cut. The field will be reduced to the top-90 players and ties prior to the fifth and final round.

Costner, who was a two-time All-Big 12 selection and the 2007 Big 12 medalist, is tied for 43rd at four-over par after opening the event with consecutive 69s before shooting 82 on Wednesday.

Emily Powers is tied for 72nd place heading into Thursday’s action.

Powers, a current senior at KU, shot a 76 on Monday before following with a 72 on Tuesday and a 75 on Wednesday. Her 223 total is seven-over par and tied for 72nd. Powers is tied for 21st among amateurs playing in the event.

Through three of the five rounds Danielle Mills was the individual leader at nine-under par at 207. In all 24 players were under par after three rounds.
