Lowe's Senior CLASS Award List Includes KU's McCray
Nov. 4, 2009
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –
Kansas senior All-American Danielle McCray has been named to the 30-player Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidate list it was announced on Wednesday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition.
McCray, who was recently named 2009 Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, has also been named to the Wade Trophy Watch List and the Wooden Award Preseason List.
One of three team captains for the Jayhawks, McCray scored 18 points and dished five assists in the 20th-ranked Jayhawks’ first exhibition game of the 2009-10 season, an 86-56 win over Pittsburg State. She averaged a team-leading 21.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as junior, on her way to Honorable Mention All-America honors and a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team.
Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award™ winner at the 2010 NCAA Women’s Final Four® in San Antonio in April.
The list of 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists each midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of classroom, character, community and competition.
This marks the ninth year for the basketball division of the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Previous winners of the award include Sue Bird of Connecticut (2002), LaToya Thomas of Mississippi State (2003), Alana Beard of Duke (2004), Kendra Wecker of Kansas State (2005), Seimone Augustus of LSU (2006), Alison Bales of Duke (2007), Candice Wiggins of Stanford (2008) and Courtney Paris of Oklahoma (2009).
