Tennis Completes Day Two of WMU Super Challenge

Nov. 5, 2005

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The University of Kansas tennis team continued competition at the WMU Super Challenge on Saturday, finishing 1-5 in singles play and 2-6 in doubles action on day two of its final tournament of the fall season.

Kansas kicked off the day with singles play versus Northwestern and Western Michigan. Junior Brittany Brown notched the Jayhawk’s lone victory, topping WMU’s Kerstin-Beeke Pahl, 6-2, 7-5.

In doubles competition, Kansas’ tandem of sophomore Elizaveta Avdeeva and freshman Ksenia Bukina notched a win against Western Michigan’s Rattiya Hiranrat and Malena Remynse, 8-2. Also picking up a victory for the Jayhawks was the team of Brown and senior Christine Skoda, who ousted WMU’s Reedhina Parekh and Noriko Saruta, 8-3.

Despite not finishing with a great record on Saturday, head coach Amy Hall-Holt felt that Kansas gained from the competition. “We played against some excellent players from top-notch programs today,” Hall-Holt said. “I think that competing against such a talented field will help us improve and will definately pay off down the line.”

The Jayhawks will wrap up their fall season on Sunday with the completion of the Super Challenge.
