Jayhawks Grab Multiple Medals at the Head of the Hooch

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas scored three more medals on Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Head of the Chattahoochee regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn., led by senior Elisheva Patterson’s second place finish in the Lightweight Single. KU entered boats in eight events and brought home four medals over the weekend, including a first place finish in the Lightweight Four on Saturday.

The Jayhawks also received strong individual performances from senior Kara Boston, and sophomore Katie Beall, both of whom nearly brought home gold in their respective events. <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Boston, competing against a large field, placed fourth in the Championship Single with a time of 22:47.9. Beall competed in the Novice Single and scored a second place finish with a time of 24:22.6. Patterson grabbed silver in the Lightweight Single in a time of 23:21.5.

Lexie Peterson (coxswain), Kristin Deckert, Katie Beall, Elisheva Patterson and Abby Green comprised KU’s winning Lightweight Four boat. The boat crossed the finish line in a time of 20:12.2, six seconds ahead of Georgia Tech.

“Our individual performances, especially from our upperclassmen were really good,” said head coach Rob Catloth. “I am real pleased with their effort.”

The Novice squad was also competing on Sunday in the Frostbite Regatta in Wichita, Kan. KU grabbed first in both the First and Second Novice Eight races.

“The whole weekend was a good first test for our younger rowers,” said Catloth. “It will help us build for next year and the spring.”

Next week, KU will face in-state rival KansasState in the Sunflower Showdown on Nov. 10 in Manhattan, Kan.
