Oklahoma State Knocks Off Jayhawks, 3-0

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Oklahoma State scored three goals in a four-minute span of the first half to knock off Kansas, 3-0 in the first round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship Wednesday at Blossom Soccer Stadium.

The Jayhawks finish the season at 7-10-4 overall, while the Cowgirls advance to the semifinals and move to 13-5-2.

After going the final five matches of the regular season without a defeat, Kansas surrendered three unanswered goals in the first half.

Junior Yolanda Odenyo gave the Cowgirls a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute with a shot off a failed clear from 25 yards out that beat the goalkeeper to the near post. It was her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

OSU took a 2-0 lead on another Kansas mistake in the box. Siera Strawser finished a ball deep in the box after the KU defense deflected a cross from the near side.

The Cowgirls scored a third goal in a five-minute span as Strawser again buried a cross from Kasey Langdon from the far side of the box. It marked the most goals KU had given up in a contest since Sept. 30 at Texas A&M.

The score did not reflect the flow of the match as OSU took 17 shots to 10 for KU. Both teams had a handful of good chances. Senior Nicole Cauzillo, sophomore Shannon McCabe, freshman Rachel Morris and sophomore Estelle Johnson each took a pair of shots. Both of Morris’ shots were on net.

Senior goalkeeper Colleen Quinn made four saves for KU.
