Tennis Ends Fall Season with Final Day of the SDSU Fall Classic II

Nov. 7, 2010

The fall 2010 tennis season came to and end for the Jayhawks Sunday afternoon in San Diego, as Kansas completed its final fall tournament, the San Diego State Fall Classic II.

In the final day of individual play, KU’s Paulina Los, Monica Pezzotti and Victoria Khanevskaya each registered singles wins, while Ekaterina Morozova and Erin Wilbert cruised to an easy doubles win.

Morozova was the sole Jayhawk to play in the final of a main draw, but fell to her nationally-ranked opponent. Morozova forced a third set by winning the second-set equalizer, but No. 51 Julia Trunk of SDSU won the third, going 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Both of KU’s players in the Silver Draw picked up consolation wins with Pezzotti going 4-3, ret., against Auburn’s Maria Arechavaleta and Khanevskaya defeating Loyola Marymount’s Melissa Valenzuela, 6-1, 6-1.

Los also earned a consolation win, downing Washington’s Aleksandra Krsljanin 6-2, 6-3, and taking the Pink Consolation Draw title.

In doubles play, Wilbert and Morozova defeated a team from UC Irvine 8-1 on the back side of the Black Draw. Los and partner Dylan Windom and Khanevskaya and Partner Kate Goff both fell to teams from LMU.

Kansas tennis will be back in action in February when the Jayhawks open the spring dual match season.
