Smith, Gault Named to Big 12 All-Tournament Team
Nov. 8, 2004
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
After leading the Jayhawks to their second consecutive semifinal appearance and posting strong performances at the 2004 Big 12 Soccer Tournament, junior forward Caroline Smith and sophomore defender Holly Gault were selected to the All-Tournament team following the tournament’s championship match.
For Smith, the honor was the second of its kind in her career, as she also was named to the All-Tournament team following last season’s Big 12 Tournament. The Edina, Minn., native, tallied five (2 goals, 1 assist) points in two games at the tournament. Smith leads the Jayhawks in goals (11), assists (8) and points (30). The all-time points leader in KU school history, Smith needs just two more points to tally 100 for her career.
The honor is the first of Gault’s career, who scored a goal in the Jayhawks’ 4-1 victory over Iowa State in the tournament’s opening round. This season, Gault has helped KU become one of the nation’s top defensive teams, allowing only 10 goals this season, as well as chipping in with 12 points on four goals and four assists.
