SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Kansas women’s tennis team is set to finish its fall season this weekend at the San Diego State Fall Classic, which runs Friday through Sunday at Aztec Tennis Center.

Several Jayhawks look to continue their recent success in San Diego this weekend, headlined by freshman standout Maria Jose Cardona. Cardona is coming off an impressive quarterfinal run in the main singles draw three weeks ago at the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla, where she won three matches despite entering the tournament unseeded.

Cardona and sophomore doubles partner Maria Belen Ludueña also advanced past the first round of the main doubles draw at ITA Regionals, while Ludueña accomplished the same feat in the tournament’s main singles draw.

With an 8-1 mark in fall play, junior Claire Dreyer currently holds the best singles record on the team. The Jayhawks have combined for a 45-17 total record in singles this fall—15-3 in three-set matches—as well as a 40-20 tally in doubles play. At 9-2, Dreyer and Freshman Anastasija Trubica currently hold the team’s best doubles record.

Doubles matches at the SDSU Fall Classic will start at 9 a.m. on Friday, with singles play beginning directly afterward. Other competing teams include San Diego State, Utah, SMU, Arizona and Middle Tennessee State.
