Jayhawks Win At Oklahoma, 3-1

NORMAN, Okla. –

Sophomore Emily Brown posted a career-high 22 kills on a .462 hitting efficiency as the Kansas volleyball team picked up its second straight Big 12 road win Wednesday at Oklahoma. With the 3-1 victory (27-30, 30-27, 30-23, 30-28) at McCasland Field House, the Jayhawks improved to 14-11 overall and 6-10 in league action.

After notching just one kill in the first game, Brown hit her way to her first career 20-kill performance while adding seven digs, three blocks and two aces. Seniors Paula Caten (10 digs) and Josi Lima (6.5 blocks and five digs) each had 15 kills in the win. Senior Andi Rozum just missed a triple-double with 56 assists, 10 digs and nine kills (.750 attack percentage).

Junior Dani Wittman set a new career best with 17 digs and junior libero Jamie Mathewson added 12 in the defensive effort.

The Jayhawks hit .242 as a team while holding OU to a .136 clip and outdug the Sooners 61 to 41.

Junior Joanna Schmitt led OU with 21 kills and had nine digs in the effort. Sophomore Sarah Weiland (11 kills) and junior Eliane Santos (10 kills, four blocks) rounded out the Sooners’ top scorers. With the loss, the Sooners moved to 6-19 and 1-15 in the Big 12.

“It was a really solid effort tonight and we were very strong defensively,” head coach Ray Bechard said. “It is great to be encouraged by two straight road wins and we are looking forward to having more fun in our upcoming matches.”

The Jayhawks look to extend their win streak to three Saturday when they host Texas Tech at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
