The three-day tournament is the final event for KU in their fall season.

Svistun advanced in singles play by shutting out Davidon’s Emily Wilkinson, 6-0, 6-0. Later on Friday, the Ufa, Russia native and her doubles partner Smith won two matches en route to their championship-round berth in the Tarheel bracket.

Also winning singles matches for the Jayhawks on Friday were Smith and sophomore Edina Horvath, who each advanced to the round-of-16 in the White singles bracket.

Kansas’ other doubles tandems of Horvath and junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and junior Lauren Hommell and freshman Kunigunda Dorn each fell in their opening matches, but then won their first contests in consolation play. Avdeeva and Horvath, who are coming off their championship at the ITA Central Regionals last month, will continue play in the Blue consolation doubles draw on Saturday, while Hommell and Dorn will compete in the Carolina doubles consolation bracket.

Avdeeva and Dorn each lost their first singles matches in the Blue draw, and will begin play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

The Kitty Harrison Invitation will resume on Saturday morning and run throughout the weekend.
