Henrickson Announces Freshman Tania Jackson Will Redshirt
Nov. 10, 2009
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s basketball head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced Tuesday that freshman forward Tania Jackson will sit out the 2009-10 season as a redshirt.
Jackson, a 6-foot-2 Lawrence, native, missed her entire senior season at Lawrence High School after suffering a knee injury in practice. She will be permitted to practice with her Jayhawk teammates and travel with the team as she continues her rehabilitation from surgery performed on her injured knee last fall.
“This is really the best thing for Tania,” said Henrickson, who is in her sixth season at Kansas. “Taking a redshirt will allow her to get completely healthy. It will provide her an opportunity to compete every day in practice. Not only will she be able to improve her own game, but she can also challenge her teammates day in and day out and help grow their game.”
Jackson saw action in the Jayhawks’ two exhibition games, logging one point and three rebounds in eight minutes of play.
No. 20 Kansas will officially open the 2009-10 season on Sunday, Nov. 15, when the Jayhawks host Oral Roberts in Allen Fieldhouse. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
