<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self announced that sophomore guard Sherron Collins underwent successful surgery on his left foot Monday.

“The surgery was performed to correct a stress fracture that came to light this morning when Sherron was x-rayed,” Self said. “Sherron sprained his ankle last night (in KU’s 85-62 win against UMKC) and was very sensitive to touch after the game. The sprained ankle aggravated an existing stress fracture that required surgery.”

“Sherron will be out of action for approximately six weeks but should be ready by the start of the New Year,” Self said. “We all feel bad for Sherron because he has put forth so much effort to be in great condition this season as evidenced by his early play.”

Through two games, Collins is KU’s leading scorer with a 16-point average for the fourth-ranked Jayhawks, 2-0. The 5-11 Chicago guard led all scorers with 22 points in the season opener against Louisiana at Monroe, including shooting 4-for-7 from three-point range.

“This will give some of our younger players an opportunity to share Sherron’s minutes,” Self said. “We also look forward to having a healthy Brandon Rush competing in a short amount of time.”
