Women's Basketball Announces The Signing Of Annette Davis And Carolyn Davis

Nov. 12, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas women’s basketball head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced the signing of two players Wednesday. A pair of forwards from Houston, Texas, Annette Davis (Bellaire High School) and Carolyn Davis (George Bush High School) signed national letters of intent to join the KU program beginning in the 2009-10 academic year.

“We are thrilled to be gaining these two quality players,” said Henrickson, who opens her fifth campaign as the head coach of Kansas on Friday. “Annette and Carolyn are both great kids who have a wealth of basketball experience playing against the very best competition. They will both be tremendous assets to our program in the years to come.”

Annette Davis, a 6-foot-1 forward, is one of the top players in the Houston area. She enters the 2008-09 season tabbed as a second team All-Greater Houston Area player according to the Houston Chronicle. Davis earned first team All-District and All-Region honors by the Houston Chronicle her junior season after posting 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for her Bellaire High squad. She was invited to attend the adidas Super 60 All-American Camp over the summer. In addition, she participated in the adidas Top 10 All-American Camp following her freshman and sophomore years. Davis chose the Jayhawks over Texas A&M, Louisiana Tech and Stephen F. Austin.

“Annette is an explosive, skilled player who can play multiple positions,” said Henrickson. “She has a great basketball IQ and is a very strong rebounder. She has a nice touch from the high post to complement her moves on the block. She is the perfect fit for the `little-big’ position in our system.

Carolyn Davis joins her future KU teammate Annette Davis as one of the premiere forwards in the state of Texas. Davis turned in 18.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game for her George Bush High School team as a junior. For her efforts she was named first team All-District by the Houston Chronicle and was selected to attend the adidas Super 60 All-American Camp. Davis chose Kansas over Texas A&M, TCU and Pittsburgh.

“Carolyn is long and athletic,” said Henrickson. “She runs the floor extremely well and is a great finisher at the rim. She is also a strong defensive player who has a knack for blocking shots. She will provide a quality low post presence to our roster.”

As members of the Houston Elite AAU team coached by Howard Randle, both Annette and Carolyn Davis led their team to a fifth-place finish at the adidas National Championships in the summer of 2008.

Kansas will officially open the 2008-09 season with a home game versus Sacred Heart on Friday, Nov. 14. Game time is slated for 7 p.m., in Allen Fieldhouse.
