Kansas Diving to Compete at Houston Diving Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Diving coach Eric Elliott and the <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas women’s diving team prepare to head to Houston, Texas, for the three-day Houston Diving Invitational Nov. 15-17. Senior Jenny Roberts and freshman Erin Mertz will lead Kansas in their quest at the Campus Recreation and WellnessCenter. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

So far this season

  • Freshman Erin Mertz has immediately impacted the diving squad in her first season at KU. Mertz stepped up the competition for the `Hawks, finishing first on the one-meter board against both Missouri and Arkansas. In three-meter competition, Mertz recorded first at the match-up with DruryUniversity and second on the three-meter board against Arkansas.
  • Senior Jenny Roberts’ experience and consistency has led Kansas in competition throughout the season thus far. Roberts sealed a key second-place finish on the one-meter board against Missouri, in addition to her third-place finish on the one-meter board and fourth-place finish in the three-meter competition against Arkansas.
  • Both Mertz and Roberts qualified for the NCAA Zone “D” Diving meet earlier this season in Kansas’ home opener against Mizzou Oct. 26.
  • Veterans Hannah McMacken, Meghan Proehl and Allison Ho stack the depth for KU, while newcomer Chelsea Hartling rounds out the Kansas competition.

Kansas swimming will be back in action after a two week break when it heads to Gambier, Ohio, for competition at the Nike Cup-Kenyon Invite Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.
