Six Jayhawks Earn Academic All-Big 12

IRVING, Texas –

Six Kansas volleyball players were among 53 student-athletes named to the 2007 Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 Volleyball Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Seniors Emily Brown and Caitlin Mahoney, juniors Savannah Noyes and Natalie Uhart, and sophomores Melissa Grieb and Katie Martincich were all honored for their performance in the classroom and on the court. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Brown earns first team honors for the third consecutive year. Noyes is a two-time honoree and Grieb, Mahoney and Uhart, a second team honoree, all earn the award for the first time.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the volleyball academic all-league team consisted of 44 first team members combined with nine on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

First Team (3.20-plus GPA)

Savannah Noyes- Jr., Pre-nursing/Community Health major, Indianola, Neb.

Second Team (3.00-plus GPA)

Natalie Uhart- Jr., Communications major, Lansing, Kan.
