Swimming and Diving Heads to Nebraska-Omaha for Weekend Dual

Nov. 13, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas (4-2) swimming and diving will head north for its final dual of 2008 as it faces the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (3-3) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The 23rd ranked Jayhawks are coming off two-straight dual victories and will have one final tune-up against the Mavs before the Kenyon Invitational.

Last weekend, the Jayhawks trounced Drury, 140-88, and Evansville, 132-95. KU, as a team, dropped only four events out of 26 on the weekend.

“The coaching staff and I thought we competed very well,” said Kansas head coach Clark Campbell. “We raced against two teams that we do not get to see too often, and I thought we swam and dove at a high level for not knowing what to expect. We took a couple more steps forward.”

Division II Nebraska-Omaha is 3-3 on the season with victories over Nebraska-Kearney (twice) and future Kansas dual opponent, Northern Iowa. The Mavs were competitive against Iowa State earlier in the season, falling 124-72. Last year, UNO finished the season with a 4-8 dual record, but a first place finish within its Mid-America Conference.

“UNO is another team that we do not know much about,” said Campbell. “It is our last meet after six weeks of competition. We want to race at a high level to gain some momentum going into the Kenyon Invitational.”

Following this weekend’s dual, KU will be back in action at the Kenyon Invitational in Gambier, Ohio from December 4-6. Kansas’ next home meet will be Jan. 24 against South Dakota and Northern Iowa in a triangular dual.
