LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas women’s basketball head coach Bonnie Henrickson announced the signing of three players Wednesday. Ashley Ellis of Deer Valley (Antioch, Calif.) High School, Angel Goodrich of Sequoyah (Tahlequah, Okla.) High School and Aishah Sutherland of Perris (Calif.) High School signed national letters of intent to join the KU program beginning in the 2008-09 academic year.

Ellis, a 6-foot-3 center, is one of the top centers in the country according to the All-Star Girl’s Report, which ranks her 18th at her position. The publication also lists her as the 78th best player overall. Ellis is a Street and Smith’s Honorable Mention All-American heading into her senior season after posting 14 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks per game as a junior and help lead her DVHS team to a Bay Valley Athletic League title. She has earned All-Metro honors the last three seasons at Deer Valley, while guiding the Wolverines to a 70-15 overall mark. Ellis chose the Jayhawks over Oregon State.

Goodrich is the most highly decorated player of the three-member signing class as she is ranked as the 48th overall player in the class of 2008 by Hoopgurlz.com and listed as the ninth best point guard by the publication. Goodrich has led her Sequoyah High team to three consecutive Class 3A state championships. The Lady Indians completed a perfect 27-0 season during Goodrich’s junior season, and have won 39 straight games overall. The 5-foot-3 guard averaged 18.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 6.9 steals and 1.4 blocks last season on her way to being named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Oklahoma. She was also named the 2007 Player of the Year by the Tulsa World Herald and 2007 Super Five by the Daily Oklahoman. Goodrich chose Kansas over Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Tulsa and Oklahoma State.

Sutherland, a 6-foot-2 forward, comes to KU from Perris High School in southern California. As a junior she was named All-Sunbelt League after posting 15 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals per outing. In addition to all-league honors she also was named first team All-CIF and first team All-County. During her first two years of high school Sutherland attended Corona Santiago High School where she led the Mountain View League in points, rebounds and blocks as a sophomore. She was named league MVP, first team All-County and second team All-CIF following the 2005-06 season.
