Volleyball Signee Beal Presented With Evelyn Gates Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –

One of Kansas volleyball’s newest NLI signees, Marianne Beal, was recently presented with the Evelyn Gates Award, given to the top volleyball player in the Kansas City area.

Beal is among four new players set to begin their college volleyball careers with the Jayhawks in the 2010-11 academic year.

A 6-foot middle blocker, the Lee’s Summit, Mo., native is ranked No. 91 nationally in the 2010 recruiting class according to PrepVolleyball.com. Beal is a four-year letterwinner from Lee’s Summit North High School where she finished her high school career as the Bronco’s all-time kills leader with 1,338 kills.

In her senior season, Beal led LSN to a 31-6-1 record and a district championship to earn All-State First Team accolades. She was also named all-conference and all-district all four years at LSN.

Beal is joined by Jessie Allen (Aurora, Neb.) and twin sisters Amy and Kara Wehrs (Hampshire, Ill.) as KU’s newest volleyball signees.
