Women's Golf Signs Four

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas head women’s golf coach Erin O’Neil announced the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Thursday. Meghan Gockel (Dallas, Texas), Emily Powers (Quincy, Ill.), Camilla Svensson (Gothenberg, Sweden) and Sydney Wilson (Lawrence, Kan.) each will tee it up for the Jayhawks next fall.

“We signed a great class of players and we are excited to have them join our family,” O’Neil said. “There is no doubt that these girls will have an immediate impact on our program.”

Gockel is a four-year letterwinner at Plano West. She is the fourth ranked player in the state of Texas and 68th nationally. Gockel is a member of the AJGA HP Scholastic All-American Team and a nominee for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.

Powers is a two-time Illinois state champion (2004, 2005) as well as the 2005 Pepsi Junior Masters Champion.

Svensson was the 2004 and 2005 Stromstad Junior Masters Champion as well as the 2004 Bankboken Tour Regional Championship Runner Up.

Wilson is a four-time Kansas state qualifier including second and third place finshes her sophomore and junior year, respectively. This past season, she won each of the four regular season tournaments that she participated in. Wilson is also a standout on the basketball and volleyball teams at Lawrence High.
