Swimming and Diving in Third After Nike Cup Day Two

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Kansas swimming and diving team is in third place after two days of competition at the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Jayhawks have recorded 393 team points and trail second-place North Carolina by 129.5 points. Seven events took place on the second day of the three-day meet.

Kansas’ day was highlighted by a first place finish in the 200 medley relay. Senior Amy Gruber, junior Lindsey Urbatchka and sophomores Jenny Short and Hannah Bakke combined to record a season-best time of 1:43.33 for the Jayhawks. Gruber recorded her second individual second-place finish of the meet in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.58. The Bigelow, Ark., native then collected her third second-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.14. Short finished behind Gruber in third place, with a time of 56.80.

The Jayhawks will compete in the final day of the Nike Cup, Saturday, starting with the morning preliminary events at 10 a.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
