KU's Davis Tabbed as Big 12 Player of the Week

Nov. 19, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – National player of the year candidate Carolyn Davis showcased her talents in a pair of Kansas victories last week and as a result was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, as selected by a media voting panel.

The weekly conference honor was the fourth of Davis’ career, as the Houston, Texas, native averaged 24.5 points per game over the two victories. Then-No. 25-ranked Kansas defeated Southeast Missouri State, 68-58, and Wake Forest, 64-58.

The Jayhawk senior, who is among the candidates for the Naismith Award, Wade Trophy and Wooden Award, is playing controlled minutes as she is working her way back to full-strength from last season’s season-ending knee injury. In all, Davis scored a combined 49 points in the two games, while only logging 48 minutes.

Davis led Kansas in scoring in both games last week, including a season-best 27 points against Southeast Missouri State. She was also highly efficient, shooting 72.4 percent from the field on 21-for-29 shooting. Davis averaged 5.5 rebounds per game.

Davis and the rest of the No. 22-ranked Jayhawks will be back in action Friday, when Kansas hosts Alabama A&M at Allen Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. contest.
