OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Kansas defeated Creighton University, 60-47, Monday night in Omaha, Neb. The Jayhawks improve to 3-1 on the year while the Bluejays drop to 0-3.

“The first half was as good as we’ve been in a long time, not just this year,” head coach Bonnie Henrickson said. ” Our defensive energy was fantastic.”

KU’s defense held the Bluejays to eight points during the first 17 minutes of the game and 24-percent shooting in the first stanza. Sade Morris chipped in nine first half points while Kelly Kohn scored 10 – including KU’s first seven of the game – to give Kansas a 36-18 halftime lead.

Morris and Kohn led the Jayhawks in scoring with 14 and 11, respectively. The Jayhawks shot 46-percent from the field while Creighton was held to 24-percent from the floor. Sophomore Marija Zinic led all players with nine rebounds.

Ally Thrall scored eight points for Creighton. The junior knocked down two three-pointers to extend her NCAA-leading streak of making a three-point basket to 33 games.

Kansas will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The Jayhawks will face Western Illinois at 7 p.m. in Allen Fieldhouse.

Game Notes: Sophomore Ivana Catic made her first start of the season and the 26th of her career … Freshman Kelly Kohn scored KU’s first seven points of the game to give KU a 7-2 lead 2:05 into the contest … Omaha Skutt Catholic graduate Katie Smith played the final minute for KU.
