Ten Football Players Named Academic All-Big 12

Lawrence, Kan. — Ten members of the University of Kansas football team were named Academic All-Big 12 on Tuesday in a release issued by the conference office. Linebacker Kevin Kane, wide receiver Jonathan Lamb, quarterback John Nielsen, offensive lineman Matt Thompson, tight end Brandon Watkins and defensive lineman Travis Watkins each earned first-team honors while wide receiver Scott Bajza, placekicker Johnny Beck, running back John Cornish and wide receiver Greg Heaggans all received mention on the second-team.

To qualify for the first-team, a student-athlete must maintain a grade point average of 3.20 or better. Those named to the second-team have a GPA of 3.00 to 3.19. In addition, each player must have played in at least 60 percent of the team’s games during the season or be in his senior year of eligibility.
