Kansas Athletics Assists Salvation Army and LINK During Upcoming Holiday

Nov. 23, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Athletics coaches and staff were among the more than 100 volunteers for the Salvation Army in Lawrence this week. The group worked Monday and Tuesday packing and distributing food baskets for the Lawrence area in-need families.

Also on Tuesday, Kansas Athletics staff joined with the Lawrence Kiwanis Club to help serve food in the LINK Kitchen located at the First Christian Church. The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen (L.I.N.K) provides a pleasant, safe place for the hungry or lonely to share companionship and a free, nutritious meal.

“We feel these are just a few ways Kansas Athletics can give back to our community,” Kansas Interim Athletics Director Sean Lester said. “Lawrence is a special place and for us to be able to help these organizations provide has been rewarding.”

On Tuesday, Nov. 30, Kansas Athletics will assist the Salvation Army in the “Share the Warmth” program, helping sort more than 3,000 donated coats to help prepare them for distribution this winter.
