Postgame Quotes

Memphis 67, Fordham 66

BTI Tip-Off Classic – Nov. 26, 2010

Memphis Head Coach Melissa McFerrin:

On an overview of the game:

“When we came out of the last time out we said ‘We have two timeouts left. If we get into trouble inbounding it, call a timeout.’ Just in the heat of the game we didn’t get that done. We made a poor pass. We made plays in that game and so did they. As we went down the stretch I thought we got stronger defensively, and so did they. I thought we found their 3-point shooters. We gave up three, threes in a row to start of the half, and gave up the lead. I was really proud of our team. We made some adjustments for an offense that we hadn’t seen yet. They obviously closeted that one from us. We took Fordham out of their game plan so they went to plan B. We also got a little bit down emotionally. Defensively we got down and I was really proud of our team because we came back and we competed.”

On the runs:

“They dominated us on the boards in the first half, and I thought that made the difference in the game. When we went into the locker room at halftime we had given up 13 second-chance points, and eight free-throws. So 21 of their 30 points at halftime were either off the glass or off of free-throws. We made that adjustment. In the end I thought it was our defense that won us the game.”

Fordham Head Coach Cathy Andruzzi

On close finish:

“I think in the end we needed to make a couple of shots and a couple of stops, which we did. We gave ourselves that chance and we made the stop at the very end with the full court press, we just weren’t able to close it out.”

On her team’s effort:

“I think our kids played really hard against a very talented Memphis team. We did some really good things but we also gave up some easy baskets in certain areas. ”

On team’s performance from beyond the arc:

“We shot 44% and usually we’re not a real big three point shooting team, but when we play certain offenses that open it up for us we take advantage of it and we just continue to shoot.”

On playing in Allen Fieldhouse:

“I love Allen Fieldhouse. Anytime you can say that you’ve played here it’s a memory that you will always remember. It’s a beautiful venue and we’ll look forward to playing another two games here.”
