North Dakota State Cruises to Victory Over Fordham, 65-52

Three Bison players notched double-figure scoring nights, as North Dakota State defeated Fordham on the second day of the Basketball Travelers, Inc., Tip-Off Classic, 65-52. Junior Katie Birkel led the way with 18 points, while sophomores Janae Burich and Hannah Linz added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

North Dakota State improved to 3-2 with the victory. Fordham dropped to 4-3 after suffering its second consecutive loss of the tournament.

Junior Becky Peters had a team-high 17 points in the Rams’ defeat.

The game remained close for the majority of the first half until the Bison pulled away with a 10-0 run in the final three and a half minutes to stretch their lead to 29-21 going into the locker room.

Coming out of the break the trend continued with the Bison going on an 11-4 run in the opening six minutes of play to take a commanding 15-point lead before eventually winning the game by 13.

NDSU shot 47.3 percent from the field in the game compared to Fordham’s 33.3 percent. The Bison also out-rebounded its opponent, 47-34.

North Dakota State next plays Memphis Sunday at 11 a.m. in its final game of the Tip-Off Classic. Fordham plays its last game of the weekend Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against Kansas.
