Swimming Signs Seven

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas Swimming and Diving head coach Clark Campbell recently announced the signing of seven swimmers for the 2006-07 season. Megan Durbin (Emporia, Kan.), Erin Goetz (Eden Prairie, Min.), Carrah Haley (Casper, Wyo.), Melissa Heyrman (Rochester, Min.), Ashley Robinson (Lawrence, Kan.), Deidre Rosel (Topeka, Kan.), and Whitney Taylor (Singapore) will join the team next fall.

Durbin is currently a senior at Emporia High School in Emporia, Kan., where she participates in the sprint free events. She is a multiple state finalist and a USA Swimming Sectional Qualifier.

Goetz a senior at Eden Prairie High School in Eden Prairie, Min., competes in the freestyle and butterfly events. She is coached by Marcy Weisner and was named to the All-Conference and All-State teams. Goetz is an All-American and a Junior National Qualifier. She is also a member of the Team Foxjet club team coached by Ann Urshel.

Haley attends Kelly Whalsh High School where she swims in the intermediate medley, backstroke, and freestyle events. She is coached by Dean Hawks and is also a member of his Casper Swim Club team. Haley is the current state record holder in the 200 IM and the 100 back. She is a multiple state high school champion and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society.

Heyrman is currently a senior at Century High School in Rochester, Minn., where she participates in the backstroke and freestyle events and is coached by Dale Magnuson. She was a member of the 2004 NICSA all-star team and a multiple state high school finalist. Heyrman is a member of the Rochester Swim Club, coached by John Sfire.

Robinson attends Free State High School in Lawrence, Kan., and is coached by Jama Crady. She participates in the butterfly and freestyle events. Robinson was the 2004 Kansas State High School Champion in the 100 fly and the 500 free and the 2005 Kansas State High School Champion in the 500 free. She is also a member of the Lawrence Aquahawks club team coached by Mike Soderling.

Rosel a senior at Washburn High School in Topeka, Kan., was a USA Sectional Qualifier and a member of the USA Swimming All-Academic Team. She is a member of the Lawrence Aquahawks club team coached by Mike Soderling.

Taylor attends the Singapore American School in Singapore. She was a USA Sectional Qualifier and Junior National Qualifier. Taylor was a Minnesota State Finalist and is a member of the Team Foxjet club team coached by Ann Urschel.

“We’re very happy to have these seven athletes join our program. Each will help so much in their area of expertise. Jen Fox, our recruiting coordinator, has done another outstanding job of putting together a wonderful group of student-athletes who will make us better in the classroom and pool,” said head coach Clark Campbell.
