Three Golfers to Join Jayhawks Next Fall

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Head women’s golf coach Erin O’Neil has announced that three freshmen will join the University of Kansas golf team next fall. Grace Thiry (Victoria, Australia) and Meghna Bal (New Delhi, India) signed National Letters of Intent, while Jennifer Clark (Kansas City, Kan.) has been officially admitted to KU and will join the team as a walk-on.

“All three girls bring a great deal of experience competing at high levels,” O’Neil said. “We are very excited to have them join our team in the fall.”

Thiry, who attends Mount St. Joseph Girls’ College in Victoria, was the winner of the LaTrobe Junior Open (2006) and Buninyong Junior Masters (2006). She was also the runner-up in the Victorian Presidents Cup (2006) and is currently a member of the Women’s Golf Victoria Future Generation Elite Program (2006).

Bal attends Saddlebrook Preparatory School in Wesley Chapel, Fla. She placed second at the South India Ladies Amateur Championship (2006), 13th at the AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) Mission Hills Desert Junior (2006) and 31st at the AJGA Girls Rolex Junior Championship (2006). Bal competed in the USGA (United States Golf Association) Girls Junior Championship (2006), and will represent India during the Asian Games in December 2006.

Clark took first at the Callaway Golf PGA Series (2006), was an EA Sports Golf Girl All-American (2005), Midwest Section PGA junior Golfer of the Year (2005) and Kansas State High School Champion (2003 and 2004). She attends Piper High School in Kansas City, Kan.
