Rush Scores 17 To Lead KU Basketball To 87-49 Win Vs. Florida Atlantic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Brandon Rush scored 12 of his game-high 17 points in the second half to lead Kansas to an 87-49 victory against Florida Atlantic in men’s basketball action here Wednesday night.

With the win, fourth-ranked Kansas improved to 6-0 on the season, while Florida Atlantic dropped to 1-6.

Four Jayhawks reached double-figure point totals as in addition to Rush, Darnell Jackson had 13, Darrell Arthur 12 and Mario Chalmers 11. Chalmers scored all 11 of his points in the first half as he was four of four from the field, including three of three from three-point range in the first 20 minutes.

Florida Atlantic was led by Carderro Nwoji and Sanchez Hughley, who each scored 14 points.

Rush matched his season-high of 17 points, which he scored on Sunday against Arizona, in just 19 minutes of action.

KU’s Sasha Kaun was the game’s leading rebounder with seven, while teammate Rodrick Stewart handed out a career-high tying eight assists. Jeremy Case added a career-high six assists off the KU bench.

For the game KU shot 56.9 percent from the field, while holding FAU to 31.4 percent. KU committed just 10 turnovers while FAU committed 19 miscues. The Jayhawks turned FAU’s 19 turnovers into 28 points.

Kansas put the game away early in the second half as the Jayhawks went on a 23-3 run to gain a 65-28 advantage midway through the final period. KU never looked back as 11 of 14 players that saw action scored in the contest.

Kansas started the game scoring inside on FAU as eight of the Jayhawks’ first 10 points of the game came from in the paint, while KU was 0 of two from three-point range in the first four minutes.

After FAU put together its first consecutive baskets to cut the margin to 20-13, Kansas went on a 12-0 run to lead 32-13. KU took a 38-19 advantage into the break.

KU shot 53.3 percent in the first half, while FAU was just six of 23 for 26.1 percent. All nine players that saw action in the first half for the Jayhawks scored.

Kansas will play its first road game of the season when it travels to USC for a game with the Trojans on Sunday, Dec. 2. The game will be televised by FOX at 1 p.m. Central.
